Beautifully shot by Raoul Coutard in widescreen and luminous black and white, the film stars a radiant Anouk Aimée as the title character, a cabaret-dancer forced to choose between a trio of lovers. Demy’s debut feature is a bittersweet ode to first love and missed opportunities.
