Jacques Demy ’s ode to the classic fairy tale by Charles Perrault stars Catherine Deneuve , as a princess who must go into hiding as a scullery maid in order to fend off an unwanted marriage proposal—from her own father, the king ( Jean Marais ). This epic tale overflows with dazzling colour, elaborate costumes, an enchanting score by Academy Award winning composer Michel Legrand and features Delphine Seyrig as a fashionable fairy godmother.
