Jefferson in Paris chronicles the five year period, from 1784 to 1789, when following the death of his wife, Thomas Jefferson (Nick Nolte) served as America’s Ambassador to the court of Louis XVI. James Ivory’s portrait of one of the founding fathers of America, tells the friendships and flirtations of the man with the French, his slaves and the freespirited painter, Maria Cosway (Greta Scacchi) at the dawn of the French Revolution.
